Before my mentorship with Gydable, I had no professional experience, no portfolio, and a resume that had accrued zero job offers. After my mentorship with Gydable, I have built my first web app, kickstarted my portfolio, and developed a resume that reflects my strengths as well as the type of work that I enjoy doing. My mentor was the key to achieving all these things. Their guidance throughout this experience has given me a first look into the lifecycle of developing an application, one that I am proud to share with others today. I cannot recommend Gydable enough.

“The most impactful part of the mentorship for me was the career preparation sessions.”

The Gydable Mentorship Program strengthened my technical knowledge and skills of unfamiliar languages. It also helped me to improve my independent problem-solving skills, specifically in determining the right questions to be asking, when to ask them, and when to "trust my gut." The most impactful part of the mentorship for me was the career preparation sessions. I now feel so much more prepared for coding interviews (I had never heard of Leetcode before), presenting my resume, and confidently networking myself on LinkedIn. This program supplemented the computer science knowledge I’ve gained from coursework in school with a vital introduction to its application and expectations in the real world.

“I was able to reach out to my mentor and ask questions regarding both my career goals and my technical skills.”

I really enjoyed my experience with this program. I think the biggest pull for me was that I was able to reach out to my mentor and ask questions regarding both my career goals and my technical skills. I liked how I was pushed to learn so many new technologies and build a project from scratch within such a short period of time.

“My biggest take away I received was a better understanding of the career paths I want to purse.”

With the guidance of my mentor, I was not only able to get introduced to the world of web development but I was also given very helpful tips and tricks on career preparation that one typically doesn’t learn about in a traditional classroom setting. Although many of the technical aspects were new and challenging for me to grasp, through open communication in our 1:1 sessions and a growth mindset approach that I developed with my mentor towards my project, I was able to make much more progress than I originally thought I was capable of. The program helped me obtain a better understanding of the tech industry and software engineering as a whole, leading me to realize that, apart form coding, I am also very interested in the business side of tech. Having completed the program, I believe my biggest take away I received was a better understanding of the career paths I want to purse. As a rising senior, this will help me boost my confidence when applying for jobs and relive me of the stress of uncertainty that most have graduates have post undergrad.

“I really loved the idea of building something by yourself along with the help of a mentor.”

I think it is a really great opportunity to be able to get accepted into this mentorship program. I really loved the idea of building something by yourself along with the help of a mentor. I also think that the project that I worked on was interesting to me as I solved many technical challenges. The platform was also very easy and simple to use. I also like how it was organized and had different features that students could use and benefit from.
